The past two years have seen a major war break out in Ukraine; growing Chinese threats against Taiwan; multiple coups and border disputes in Africa; renewed conflict in the Middle East; and populist political victories around the world.

According to Alasdair Macleod, these should not be viewed as isolated events, as they are all related to a major, historic geopolitical theme: the end of Pax Americana. The implications are likely to impact international monetary and financial market developments in 2024 and beyond.
