The bad news is becoming an all-encompassing blur. The new government’s budget is copping the blame for absolute carnage in the financial markets. We’ve hit new lows for 2022 in the US stock market, the pound fell 5% within a day at one point, and bonds continue to get routed.

But that’s just a smattering of everything that’s going badly wrong. Amidst all the chaos, I got a bizarrely optimistic text message from one of the wisest investors I know. He’s gone from being the most cautious to the most optimistic person with whom I discuss the markets.
